Survey & Machine Control
Integrated survey and GPS machine control for precision civil delivery across Queensland and Northern NSW
Built for accuracy. Backed by experience.
When precision matters most, you need survey and machine control systems that deliver millimetre-perfect results every time. Joe Wagner Group's in-house Survey and Machine Control division combines cutting-edge GPS technology with over three decades of hands-on civil construction expertise.
Our dedicated Survey & Machine Control Technician doesn't just operate equipment – they understand the unique challenges of Queensland's diverse project environments, from flood-prone coastal sites to remote mining operations in the outback.
From the initial site survey through final as-built documentation, we deliver the survey intelligence that keeps your project on schedule, on grade, and on budget.
Why our integrated approach works:
Rapid deployment anywhere in Queensland and Northern NSW
Our mobile systems are designed for quick setup, meaning less downtime and faster project starts, even in the most challenging locations.
Real-time precision that saves money
Advanced GPS and laser integration eliminates costly rework by getting cuts, grades, and alignments right the first time. No more string lines, no more manual checking, no more delays.
Seamless equipment integration
All our GPS-enabled plant operates as a coordinated system. When your grader, excavator, and survey equipment work together, productivity soars and margins improve.
Proven reliability in tough conditions
Whether you're dealing with dense vegetation blocking GPS signals, underground utilities, or tight urban spaces, our multi-system approach (GNSS, mmGPS, LPS) ensures continuous operation.
Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)
GNSS receivers are the backbone of any base and rover setup.
This set up increases productivity and accuracy with this easy to use GNSS based 3D Excavator indicate system.
This system gives you the ability to grade faster, and keeps you there, even in deep, blind cut situations, or when digging under water.

Millimetre Global Positioning Systems (mmGPS)
Millimetre GPS combines GPS and laser technology to increase accuracy up to 300% over standard GPS only systems.
mmGPS allows multiple machines and rovers to operate in the same work zone using the same laser network.
It increases site productivity by eliminating string lines or hubs to lay out work areas.
Local Positioning System (LPS)
When a higher accuracy solution is required or satellite access is prevented by heavy tree cover or buildings, LPS uses total stations to provide precise location and height information.
This control system allows you to switch back and forth from GPS to LPS modes as satellites become a viable option again.
Our graders and excavators have this feature.

Advanced Safety Features
Our fleet is fitted with lockable height and slew limiters, as well as AI-powered camera systems that come with proximity alarms.
These tools are not only mandatory for rail site operations but also crucial when working near powerlines.
They enhance operator visibility in challenging environments ensuring the safety of all personnel on-site.
Machine Control Integration
All GPS-enabled plant is managed by our in-house technician, ensuring seamless calibration and performance. Our graders and excavators switch easily between GNSS and LPS control systems as required by site conditions.
The Aptella Topcon millimetre system gives us 10mm accuracy, no problem - and it keeps working even if something obstructs the line of sight.
